Regular Education
The teacher-student ratio for staffing in the District is the responsibility of the Board. Staffing patterns and student grouping shall be flexible so as to accommodate varied instructional delivery approaches, student needs, curriculum requirements, and fiscal resources. Each year the Superintendent will make staffing recommendations during the budget review and preparation process.
Minimum Class Size for High School Courses
Courses listed in the High School catalog will be offered subject to the following enrollment requirements:
- Courses being offered for the first or second time at a particular high school must have an initial enrollment of 15 students.
- Courses that have been offered at a particular high school for two or more consecutive school years must have an initial enrollment of 20 students.
Exceptions to the minimum class size rules may be made when the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools recommends the exception and the Superintendent approves it. In the case of designated bilingual and/or ELD classes, such exceptions shall require prior consultation between the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools and the Director of the Language Acquisition Department.
Special Education
It is the intent of the District to maintain a special education student-teacher ratio that will allow the teacher to work effectively and efficiently toward the individualized education program (IEP) objectives of each student with a disability and to work with classroom teachers to prevent learning problems whenever possible.
